Delhi, the heart of India, has had more sorrows, more conquests, more invasions, more rulers, more dynasties than any other Indian city. And each dynasty has created its own Delhi, so that kingdoms are scattered everywhere…In spite of all the demolition and uprooting, it is not only the comparatively recent city that has survived but remnants of all of them, right back to the legendary city of Indraprastha, which is said to be buried under the 16th century fort of Sher Shah Sur.
