Delhi Parsi Anjuman - 1958

AAJ designed the Hall for the Delhi Parsi Anjuman.  It is known as the Bhiwandiwala hall.  In form it is a half cylinder (vault) with a few small cuboids attached. Though it has been modified, glimpses of the old structure are discernible.

The interiors were perhaps initially kept simple with large exposed brick walls on either end.  They have since been changed and updated to more modern requirements of staging and air-conditioning.

AAJ often used various materials on exterior walls to create textured coloured finishes. Stone masonry, brickwork and concrete were also used effectively to express a building structure and to enliven the facades.

Vault Structure

The vault’s structure is primarily held by RCC (reinforced cement concrete) arches and ribs as evidenced by the old photos.  The height of the arches also allowed them to create high windows to let in more natural light.
